Pixie Lott

Awe how cute! ~ Pixie Lott made a surprise appearance at a Surrey school to reward students who raised money for charity.
Children at the Amesbury School covered Pixie’s No.1 single ‘Boys And Girls’ and posted the video online to raise money for the Cardiac Risk In The Young organisation.
Pixie recently became a patron of the charity, said that she is proud of the student’s dedication to the cause... speaking to a national newspaper she said: “When I first heard their version of my song it instantly put a smile on my face,” ... “They did such a great job and made it their own. This whole group of children made me so proud.”

Susan Boyle

You gotta love Susan Boyle for remaining so down to Earth... She surprised fans by appearing as the guest of honour at a local school fete, Susan turned out for the event in her Scottish hometown of West Lothian and was more than happy to sign autographs and pose for pictures, and later crowned the winner of the Gala Queen contest.
A parent at the fete is quoted as saying: “Susan made the children's day. She's such a massive star now - we were all amazed she turned up.”

Lauryn Hill

Lauryn Hill has spoken for the first time about her decision to leave the public eye.... (and it’s nothing to do with her coming across as an arrogant, spoilt brat ... i know, i was surprised too!)
Apparently there are a “number of different reasons” for her absence... Lauryn told a national news paper: “The support system that I needed was not necessarily in place. There were things about myself, personal growth things that I had to go through in order to feel like it was worth it.”... “Oftentimes, the machine can overlook the need to take care of the people who produce the sounds that have a lot to do with the health and well-being of society... And it's important that people be given the time that they need to go through, to grow, so that the consciousness level of the general public is properly affected.”
She went on... “I don't know if you know this, but I have five children. The youngest is 2 now, so she's old enough that I can leave her for a period of time and know she's going to be okay.”
Lauryn also revealed that she feels it is “time” to make her comeback.
“I'm starting to get excited again. Believe it or not, I think what people are attracted to about me, if anything, is my passion. People got exposed to my passion through music and song first... And I think that can be infectious.” ~ Whatever i think about her attitude that i’ve seen on TV interviews there’s no denying that her album ‘The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill’ is a masterpiece! (and it’s hard to believe that it was 12 YEARS ago!)

Leona Lewis

I went to see Leona Lewis in concert on Sunday night at The O2 and she certainly surprised me!
I would have been perfectly happy (and was expecting) to be sat there for 2 hours listening to her belt out the ballads, instead it spent most of it dancing around the place while she sang versions of ‘Sweet dreams’ and ‘They don’t care about us’ (which was to the music of Daft Punks ‘Harder, Faster, Stronger’, However for me the highlights (in addition to those to) have to be when she sang ‘Bleeding love’ and ‘Run’.
She plays Dublin again tonight, so if you’re going to see her, get on your dancing shoes, you’re in for a fantastic night!

Stevie Wonder

I went to see Stevie Wonder last night in The O2 and he was absolutely brilliant! The highlight had to be when he sang ‘Superstition’ – The crowd was amazin’ everyone up on their feet! From the moment he came on he didn’t leave the stage once, it was surprising too how fantastic ‘Happy birthday’ went down too (although we could of done without ‘I just called, to say, i love you...’)

The Saturdays

The Saturdays have confirmed that their upcoming album will actually be a mini album, (Kinda like what Soulja Boy Tellem and Keane did)
The girl recently announced that the title of their third studio record is ‘Headlines’.
Discussing the bands plans band member Una said on Irish TV “We have a mini album coming out at the end of August, loads of summer shows all over the UK , performing all the time, and that's it really! ... “And we have a book coming out in September, an autobiography about who we were before the band, how we got into the band and how it's been until now.”

Keri who has written tracks for Britney Spears and Omarion, told revealed that she relies on the income she receives from song writing.

Songwriting was my Plan B. My whole life, I've fought to just do this. I didn't know that I'd be able to take off as far, or as fast, as I did, but I knew I had a talent and that I should pursue it, because there's money in it.” ... “Even at my peak, the highest I can be as an artist, I always want to be keeping my creative juices flowing, keeping money in the bank, putting my intellectual property out there.”

Michael Jackson

Michael Jackson has made more than $1 BILLION since he died a year ago!
$383m was generated in album sales, $400 from his ‘This is it’ film (Both Cinema and DVD takings). A new record deal is estimated to be worth $32m.
Even though his tour never started, ticket sales from fans (including myself) who opted for their ticket rather than a refund generated $6.5m other royalties came from downloads, ringtones and other DVD sales...

Jay-Z

I’d say the NYPD aren’t happy with Jay-Z this morning after Jay-Z went ahead with an outdoor show in New York last night just days after it was axed due to security fears...
It was reported last week that Jay-Z was forced to cancel the free concert in the city centre after news of it leaked and thousands planned to turn up.
His performance was due to be part of his appearance on ‘The Late Show with David Letterman’.
Jay-Z instead moved the concert onto the roof of the TV show’s studio and invited 100 fans to watch him perform with surprise guest Eminem. No permit was required as the gig was held on private property.
Dam, now i woulda loved to have been there for that, i remember seeing U2 perform on the rooftop of their hotel in Dublin a few years ago – and it was awesome!

Backstreet Boys & New Kids On The Block

The Backstreet Boys joined New Kids On The Block on stage during a recent performance in New York, both boybands (or ‘Manbands’) took the stage at Radio City Music Hall in New York to perform the Backstreet Boys hit ‘I Want It That Way’.
“I think this is definitely a special collaboration and timing is everything in showbusiness,” New Kids member Joey McIntyre said.
Speaking about the Backstreet Boys fans, Donnie Wahlberg added: “They have very loyal fans and we have very loyal fans, but I think looking at the few women who were sprinkled around during rehearsal, there was just a look that I haven't seen too often.” – Not quiet sure it’s something i would of like to have seen..

Shakira

Shakira has said that she is happy to be playing at this year’s Glastonbury Festival.
Shakira will perform on the Pyramid Stage on Saturday at the event in Somerset, UK
In an interview by festival co-organiser Emily Eavis, Shakira told a national newspaper “I know that Glastonbury is one of the most famous and popular musical festivals in Europe, if not the world, and I'm so happy to be a part of its 40th anniversary... “I understand that you donate about £2m every year to charity, and that's pretty amazing, and it was also one of the reasons that it was so appealing to me to be a part of this. I know that you are socially aware and that makes a tremendous difference to me. I hope I don't disappoint!”
She added: “They'll probably have to pull me by the hair and put me in the car! I know I'm not going to want to leave. And I heard that Gorillaz is performing, right? I love Gorillaz. And Muse. That's some of my favourite bands for sure... “The xx are also going to be playing and I just collaborated with them on an album of covers of their own music. I covered ‘Islands’, which is one of my favourite songs right now.”
Can’t help wondering though if Glastonbury is the sort of venue for Shakira... Mind you folk said that about Jay-Z and he nailed it! ~ Still, time will tell...

Radiohead

Radiohead guitarist Ed O'Brien has confirmed that the recording of Radiohead’s 8th studio album is almost completed.
Speaking to BBC 6 Music he said that the group had worked in a “different spirit” to their previous album... “It's genuinely exciting, it's very different to what we did last time. It's just really nice to be doing this. It's so good to be making music with the band that you feel is still as good as it's ever been... “Making records has been hard - it's always been a slog. Traditionally, Radiohead in the studio has been, 'Don your tin helmet, get in their and just see it out'. it's kind of like a war of attrition.”
He added: “For ages and ages it seems like the finishing line is miles away, and now it feels its in touching distance. But of course, it being a creative process, it's like anything... “You have bursts of energy and you achieve a lot in a certain small period amount of time and then something things slow down and you're nearly there... Yeah, hopefully it's going to be a matter of weeks.”
I for one can’t wait to hear the album!

Simon & Garfunkel

Looks like it was never meant to be huh...
Simon & Garfunkel have cancelled their North American tour due to Art Garfunkel's vocal paresis, after originally postponing the tour from April to July.
They released a statement on their official website stating that Garfunkel's condition “inhibits the duo from performing shows”.
The message also went onto say that he is expected to make a full recovery... “I do feel bad about disrupting so many people's plans but, as I continue to mend, I can't yet bring my A-game to a tour, and I would not perform for you with anything less,” Garfunkel added.

Refunds will be offered to those who have purchased tickets for the cancelled dates.

Christina Aguilera

Oh dear oh dear... things are going from bad to worse for Christina Aguilera, not only did she fail to bag herself a US No.1 album with comeback album ‘Bionic’ it slumped from No.1 in the UK down to No.29 making it the biggest single week drop in chart HISTROY... The poor album sales come soon after she suddenly postponed her American tour, which has now been put back to next year.

Paloma Faith

The fantastic Paloma Faith has revealed that she turned down the opportunity to be a backing singer for Amy Winehouse before her own singing career took off.
According to a national newspaper, Paloma said that she owed it to herself to go it alone in the music industry.
“It was very flattering to be offered a place in Amy Winehouse's band as a backing singer before I started being publicly recognised... “It was a great opportunity - but I felt I had to follow my dream and I turned it down to write and perform my own songs.”
Great decision if you ask me!

Dannii Minogue

Dannii Minogue has reportedly signed a new record deal worth £1 million with dance label Ministry of Sound.

Dannii Minogue’s last official studio album was 2003's ‘Neon Nights’, which peaked at No.8 on the UK album chart.
Can’t wait to hear what she’s got in the pipeline!

John Lennon

Lyrics handwritten by John Lennon have sold at a New York auction for $1.2m (£800,000).
Lyrics to the song ‘A Day in the Life’, are written on a single piece of paper and feature spelling mistakes and crossings out. A neater version is written on the reverse side.
David Redden, Sotheby's Books and Manuscripts Department international chairman told a news agency: “The outstanding price achieved for these handwritten lyrics is testament to the iconic status of The Beatles, John Lennon and especially this song.”
The piece was reportedly sold to an American collector, well above the estimated sale price.
It’s not a record though for lyrics belonging to ‘The fab four’ ... The record for Beatles lyrics sold at auction was set in 2005, when $1.25m was paid for the ‘All You Need Is Love’ lyrics.

When it's ready, you'll be hearing it from me.”
Does no-one have security anymore in record companies...?

Jamelia

It was like a relationship that fizzled out... “Me and EMI weren’t in love any more. I still speak to everyone at the label, they're still my friends, it's just one of those things.”

Kele Okereke

Good on Kele Okereke has admitted that he was reluctant to discuss his sexuality when he was still an active member of Bloc Party.
Kele released debut solo single ‘Tenderoni’ this week, confirmed that he is gay in March this year.
Speaking to a newspaper Kele said: “The band was a band, it wasn't just me. I didn't want to talk about it and I don't think they wanted it to be an issue. In fact I know they didn't, because one of them told me once. I didn't want to be seen as a spokesperson for something.”
Asked what changed since then, he replied: “You learn, don't you? I've learned that it's important not to run away from things, because it makes a difference to people... “I can't tell you how many times I've been stopped by young gay kids saying how important it is that a man like me exists in the mainstream.” ... Nadine Coyle

Nadine Coyle has claimed that there is no reason for Girls Aloud to rush into a reunion...
The group took a break last year following the end of their 'Out Of Control' tour, but were due to soon meet up again to discuss their future... Speaking about their current hiatus, Nadine hinted that she expects all of the band's stars to continue with their solo jobs for the time being. (Now there’s a surprise...)
She’s quoted as saying: “We're all still young so we don't have that racing against the clock, and I wanted to do a solo record and everyone wants to do their own thing - Sarah [Harding] with the acting, or whatever they're doing... “But when we're all back together, we'll see then. Everything's good, you know, we're taking a break and everyone's doing their own thing.”
Funny, i know exactly what my ‘friends’ are up to... Seems Nadine is shooting herself in the foot here (again), she’ll soon have a change of heart when her album doesn’t do as well as she hopes... The public will soon make their voice heard when (and if) she releases anything!

Simon speaking in a national newspaper said that the record would be the perfect song to play to the players before the game against Algeria on Friday... “"England needs this record right now,” ... “They should have played it in the dressing-room at half-time against the US. I'm going to try to get it played in the dressing-room before the next match.”

Simon Cowell has also reportedly bet £1,000 that England will win the World Cup in South Africa... i opted for a more reasonable €10.00 bet!

Kylie famously wore a pair of gold hot pants in the video for her 2000 No.1 smash ‘Spinning Around’ However, she had to be persuaded by Joseph Kahn - the director of the video for her new single ‘All The Lovers’ - to revisit the iconic look...
Speakign to a national newspaper Kylie said: “I was not expecting to be wearing that kind of outfit ever again,”... “In fact, the brief for the video, pardon the pun, was long flowing dresses. But when I got there the director said, ‘I think of you and I think hot pants’... “I was thinking, ‘Everyone's gone to so much trouble to call in white flowing dresses', and I had to wrestle with my feelings about it, and I thought the long dresses wouldn't work for this video, so I'd go with it, but some paparazzi were outside and that's how those shots happened. But I survived.”
Kylie also admitted that she is under no illusion as to why her choice of outfit has attracted so much attention... “Now it gets written about because I'm in that age group. ‘She's in her forties and she's still got it.’ I'm in that age group where you're spoken about like that, and I'm like, 'Shut up, because at some point it won't be.’”

US Charts

Katy Perry scores the fastest No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 by an artist signed to Capitol Records in nearly 43 years, as "California Gurls,", rises 2-1 in its fourth week on the chart. The song makes the quickest sprint to the summit by a Capitol single since Bobbie Gentry's "Ode to Billie Joe" likewise reached the top spot in four weeks on the chart dated Aug. 26, 1967. Five months before Gentry, the Beatles' "Penny Lane" had also zipped to No. 1 in four frames.
Jack Johnson gets his third US No.1 album this week with “To The Sea” after selling a massive 243,000 copies. The album breaks an eight-week long streak of No. 1s selling less than 200,000

Tinchey (who recently revealed that he was working on more collaborations for his new album) has signed a unique deal that means the company will look after his management, merchandise and live shows.

Mini Viva

Oh dear, didnt’ take long ... Life in the music industry is certainly cruel and the latest casualties are pop duo Mini Viva after one member revealed they were "unaware" of the group's prospects.
The band, made up of Frankee Connolly and Britt Love, were created my song writing and production team Xenomania, (who are best known for their work with Girls Aloud).
The girls first single ‘Left My Heart In Tokyo’ charted at a respectable No.7 last September and was a huge hit for them, but their follow-up ‘I Wish’ peaked at a disappointing No.73. Their latest single, ‘One Touch’ reached a laughable No.114.
Posting on their Twitter account, Britt wrote: “Hey people it's Britt, everything is abit unaware at the moment what's going on with Mini Viva, please hold tight all my love. X”

Lady GaGa

The wait is almost over folks... ‘Cos Lady GaGa has confirmed that she will debut her new video later today!
A 30-second teaser clip from the ‘Alejandro’ promo was shown on US TV last week, but the full version is to appear online today at 5pm GMT.
Earlier this morning the singer posted on her Twitter page: “Premiering Tomorrow, Tuesday the 8th. 9amPST/12pmEST/5pmGMT. GAGAKLEIN: ALEJANDRO. X Mother Monster.”
‘Alejandro’, is the third single from Lady GaGa's ‘The Fame Monster’ album reissue, and is scheduled for release on 28th June, However, it charted at number No.28 on Sunday's UK singles chart on downloads and has already been a top ten hit in Australia, Canada and the US.
A still photo from the video is above!

Destiny's Child

Mmm... Do i smell i lie...?
Beyoncé’s father: Matthew Knowles has reportedly denied renewed speculation that Destiny's Child are planning a reunion.
In a statement Matthew said that the members of the group have “moved on to successful solo careers” and are not planning to reform.
“Contrary to rumours online of a Destiny's Child reunion, there are no plans for the group to reunite for a performance or album,” said the release, posted by an entertainment magazine,
“The rumours are false. Destiny's Child made an unprecedented impact in contemporary music, becoming one of the best-selling groups of all time. Beyoncé, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams have each moved on to successful solo careers. The members remain close, but will not reunite as a group.”
Destiny's Child disbanded in 2004. They have sold over 50 million albums worldwide – But they are still contracted to release one more album...

Chris Brown

Oh dear ... Chris Brown has cancelled his European tour after being refused a work visa.
Chris announced yesterday that his tour, (which was due to begin on June 9 in Glasgow), had been postponed indefinitely.
Chris wrote on his Twitter page “SORRY to all the fans in Europe! My tour is cancelled;” ... “I'm pretty sure y'all know. My entry was denied in your country. I love you. SORRY!!” I’m sure it has nothing to do with poor ticket sales... even in Ireland he’s gone from selling out 2 nights in The O2 to not even being able to sell out a 1000 capacity venue (Vicar St)! ~ Chris Brown later erased the tweets without explanation.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor

I predict that it’s only a matter of time before Sophie Ellis-Bextor is dropped from her label! And it seems that record bosses are scrambling to try and recoup their losses by telling Sophie to change her next single.
The pop singer originally planned to release ‘Off & On’ from her upcoming album: ‘Straight To The Heart’
It’s now been decided that her collaboration with Dutch DJ/producer Armin van Buuren will be released instead.
“It's called ‘Not Giving Up’ and I'm really excited about doing it. I'm filming a video with him very soon," she confirmed at the BAFTA TV Awards.
She’s putting on brave face insisting that she was happy with the performance of her most recent single ‘Bittersweet’ which only peaked at No.25 on the UK singles chart last month (and failing to chart anywhere in Europe)
“You know what, I'm totally at peace with it. I still love the song. This might sound like something you only say after something hasn't done fantastically, but I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that I've had a long career and I don't get bogged down with that kind of thing,” she said.
Sophie has failed to have a UK Top.10 hit since February 2007 and she hasn’t had a European hit since 2003
If her album fails to set the charts alight it’ll certainly be the final nail for her to dropped.

Holidays

Hey folks ....I’m off to Belgium for the Bank holiday weekend (Yip it’s a B/H in Ireland) So my next post will be on Tuesday 8th June, Have a fantastic weekend everyone and I’ll talk to ya’s on Tuesday!

Busted

Oh dear, things haven’t got off to a good start for Matt Willis and James Bourne’s plans to re-form ‘Busted’ because old band mate Charlie Simpson has refused to let his old pals use the original name when they start gigging again later this year. (The guy in the middle)
A source said: “James was talking about it to pals at Flecking Records. Charlie doesn't want to come back, but he doesn't want Matt and James to do it without him either.”
Since Busted split in 2005, Charlie's done pretty well with his new band and has no desire for a reunion.

Busted sold more than three million albums and won two Brits.
