Lyrics handwritten by John Lennon have sold at a New York auction for $1.2m (£800,000).
Lyrics to the song ‘A Day in the Life’, are written on a single piece of paper and feature spelling mistakes and crossings out. A neater version is written on the reverse side.
David Redden, Sotheby's Books and Manuscripts Department international chairman told a news agency: “The outstanding price achieved for these handwritten lyrics is testament to the iconic status of The Beatles, John Lennon and especially this song.”
The piece was reportedly sold to an American collector, well above the estimated sale price.
It’s not a record though for lyrics belonging to ‘The fab four’ ... The record for Beatles lyrics sold at auction was set in 2005, when $1.25m was paid for the ‘All You Need Is Love’ lyrics.

It still surprises me at the price a bit of paper can bring. I mean, that's the same price as a hospital wing!
